The 2022 Southeastern Synod Assembly theme is UNMUTE YOURSELF.

For 2022, the Assembly will be held on IN PERSON.  We will NOT be accepting on-site registrations.
 

This year’s Assembly will include:

• Revival Preacher: Bishop Rob Wright, Atlanta Diocese, The Episcopal Church
• Churchwide Representative Deacon John Weit, Assistant to the Presiding Bishop and Executive for Worship of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
• Elections for: 
  • Synod Vice President
  • At-Large and Young Adult Synod Council members
• Adoption of the Ministry Spending Plan
• Parliamentarian: The Rev. Dr. Warren Casiday
• Global Mission Guest: Mr. Diego Gill from ILAG

We have a lot of work to do together as the Church and we are excited that even though we are unable to be physically together we can gather as the Beloved Community in this unique way.

Assembly Offering

Designated of Assembly Offerings Proposed: Resolved that the offering at the 2022 Assembly be give as follows: To be given to Novus Way Ministry (Friday), Gordy Fund for Leaders Scholarship and Skillrud Fund for Leaders Scholarship (Saturday), and Southeastern Synod Disaster Ministry Responses (Sunday).

Assembly on Pentecost Weekend!

Come Holy Spirit come! This year Synod Assembly will be held on June 3-5, 2022 at the Chattanooga Convention Center in Chattanooga, TN and Sunday is the celebration of Pentecost. Years ago, the Synod Assembly voted to approve a resolution mandating that Assembly not be held on Memorial Day Weekend. That has meant that every 7 years or so, our traditional weekend for Assembly falls on Pentecost weekend. This year is one of those years. Due to the pandemic, we have not been able to have an in-person Assembly for two years. We had two years remaining on the contract with the Chattanooga Convention Center and so we were contractually bound to these dates.  Synod Assembly needs to be held prior to the Churchwide Assembly in August and this year when we officially announced the dates for the Assembly the National Youth Gathering was scheduled for this summer (it has since been cancelled), and the Southeastern Synod Affirm Camp was also scheduled (this is still happening) and due to the nature of that camp there were no other options than to hold Assembly on Pentecost weekend. 

We will celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit during the Saturday afternoon worship with a Revival and Pentecost Eve service. We will celebrate Pentecost in worship on Sunday morning in worship and we pray throughout the Assembly for the Holy Spirit to guide our work as the body of Christ gathered in Assembly. Come Holy Spirit, come.

For the safety of all attending the Synod Council has adopted the following COVID Guidelines:

1. All voting members and visitors will be asked to provide proof of vaccination at registration.
2. Those who are not vaccinated are asked to take a rapid COVID test no more than 24 hours prior to arrival at Assembly. If the test result is positive, for your safety and the safety of others please do not travel to the Assembly. Please bring your proof of a negative test result with you to show at registration.
3. If, at registration, individuals are unable to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test, they will be asked to receive a rapid test before they can be registered. Proof of a negative test will need to be presented to register.
4. If a person tests positive for COVID before or during the event or if they begin to exhibit COVID symptoms, even if vaccinated, we ask that the individual isolate in their hotel room until they depart or until they receive a negative COVID test. Please note that the Southeastern Synod is unable to give registration refunds based on COVID symptoms or a positive COVID Test. If a voting member test positive prior to the beginning of the Assembly, we will allow a substitute voting member to attend up to 48 hours prior to the Assembly.
5. All voting members, visitors or those physically in the Chattanooga Convention Center for any of the agenda of the Assembly, workshops, worship or fellowship gatherings are required to be masked, in appropriate facemasks, with the masks covering both the nose and mouth. If attending an event with food, participants are asked to only remove masks while eating or drinking and being mindful of social distancing.
6. Speakers on the dais, worship leaders and musicians are not required to wear masks while they are speaking or singing. Adequate space will be given between them and the gathered assembly to provide for safety. Speakers at microphones in the plenary sessions will be asked to remain masked. Presenters in workshops also will be masked.

The Southeastern Synod COVID Team, Synod Council and Synod Staff will continue to monitor the pandemic and change protocols and update these guidelines as needed.

Special notes for registration:

• In 2022, Synod Assembly registration is set up as "GROUP" registration.  One registration will be used to register all voting members and guests from a congregation.

Costs are as follows:

• Early Bird registration (through March 31, 2022) for voting members (Rostered/Lay) with a credit card is $205, or $200 if paying via check; for visitors with a credit card is $125 or $120 if paying via check. Checks need to be postmarked by April 2, 2022 to avoid being charged the next higher registration rate.
• Standard registration (through May 10, 2022) for voting members (Rostered/Lay) with a credit card is $220, or $215 with a check; for visitors with a credit card is $140, or $135 with a check. Checks need to be postmarked by May 11, 2022 to avoid being charged a $25 fee per participant.
• ONSITE REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN 2022.

Rostered Ministers NOT attending will need to provide a written excuse to Bishop Strickland (bishop@elca-ses.org).

Each day of Synod Assembly, we have a different giving focus:

Each day the funds will be directed as above.  The Assembly page will show which fund is being supported each day.   Prior to the Synod Assembly, and for 1-2 weeks after the Synod Assembly, all three funds will remain open donations.

On Saturday, June 4, our worship service will have a Revival feel, with a focus to help us UNMUTE OURSELVES and share the Gospel with those in the community.   Bp. Wright will be preaching for this service and inspire us to share the Good News of God in Christ Jesus.
