Region 9 Boundaries and Inclusion Education (BIE) Coordinator
 

Region 9 of the ELCA is made up of 6 synods: Caribbean, Florida-Bahamas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Southeastern, Virginia. Region 9 is currently looking at hiring a part-time Boundaries and Inclusion Education (BIE) Coordinator.
 
Overview
The Boundaries and Inclusion Education Coordinator oversees the coordination, communication, planning, monitoring, evaluating, registering, promoting, resourcing for the Region 9 Boundaries and Inclusion Education’s three-year rotation covering healthy boundaries, racial justice, and gender justice.
 
Reports to
Directly reports to the synod bishop that this person is rostered with in Region Nine. As well, reports periodically to the Region Nine council with updates on their work. Works directly with Assistants to Bishops who relate to boundaries education.
 
Qualifications
A highly motivated and well-organized person, able to work under pressure and independently by managing her/his/their own time and work priorities. Someone who is flexible, able to work on different issues simultaneously and carry out a diversity of tasks in the boundaries and inclusion education areas. We are seeking a person with proven ability to organize learning events, do research work, turn complex issues into easily understandable documents/resources usable both personally and communally, as well as conduct administrative tasks, communicate in a timely manner with the various Assistants to the Bishops relating to Boundaries. Someone who is excited to be a co-teacher and co-learner and bring ideas for the boundaries and inclusion education strategy/roundtable of the Synods. Being bilingual, Spanish-English, is desired for this position. Due to the contexts of the Synods, all educational components must be presented in both English and Spanish.
 
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lead in growing and, where necessary, developing Region 9 BIE content, curriculum, digital resources
  • Assist synodical staff in administering Region 9 Boundaries and Inclusion Education
  • Serve as primary point of contact for Region 9 BIE and manage the working group and all elements therein.
  • Track attendance for Region 9 BIE events and communicate it back to the Synods
  • Make certificates and have those sent to participants who attend boundary training.
  • Build and maintain a bilingual Region 9 BIE webpage with relevant information nested within one of the Region 9 Synod’s websites
  • Arrange and oversee BIE trainings, registrations, and communications
  • Prepare fact sheets and other documents that support Region 9 BIE activities
  • Remain abreast of other Boundaries and Inclusion programming and resources from around the ELCA
 
 
Time: 
Part Time (15-20 hours/week)
Salary: Commensurate with experience and to comply with part time suggested salary and guidelines in synod of roster (if a rostered minister) within Region 9 and contributions to health insurance, social security offset, and contributions to retirement are also considered as part of this package.
