Pr. Michael Jannett

Individuals’ coping reactions to trauma remain poorly understood, even by many of us who are in the best positions to offer support in times of crisis. Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) recognizes the widespread impact of trauma on church members and communities. Come and learn from trauma specialists how a TIC-informed response to pastoral care helps decrease the risk of re-traumatization and nurtures healing. Assessments, procedures, and resources will be shared. This 1-hour training workshop led by Rev. Dawn Bennett will introduce this vital topic to you and build your capacity to provide responsive support that protects both the minister and those in our care. Rev. Dr. Brian Hooper and Ms. Jeannie Ingram will also offer their insights and help lead our conversation.

This is for rostered ministers, but we also invite lay ministers (whose duties include caring for others) to be a part of this free event.

A word about format for these offerings: This is vulnerable work. In order to facilitate a safe space, the educational workshops will take questions via a private facilitator, and breakout rooms will be provided in the Zoom meetings for anyone who needs personal support. Attendance in the support groups will remain anonymous from the Synod office. In all these offerings we ask that anything shared be kept in confidence.
