Topic of Conversation: Preaching the Truth in Love: Prophetic Preaching in the Current Context: Jesus was no stranger to preaching a difficult, counter-cultural message - often risky and unpopular. Yet, he loved the people enough to preach the truth. In our current context, often marked by divisive opinion, we will explore how to approach preaching prophetically while remaining pastoral.

Featured Speaker: The Reverend Tiffany Chaney is the pastor developer of Gathered by Grace, a congregation serving young adults in the Montgomery and Tuskegee, Alabama communities.  She will also be the featured preacher for Reformation Day 2018 at Emory, (see below), Thursday, October 25, at 11:05 am in Cannon Chapel on the Emory University Campus.

Thursday, October 25
Reformation Day at Emory

Pitts Theology Library at Emory University invites you to the 31st annual Reformation Day at Emory. This day-long program will look at “The Reformation at 501 Years,” examining the time of the Protestant Reformation through the lens of issues facing contemporary Christians. The day will feature a presentation of some of the most recent acquisitions of the Richard C. Kessler Reformation Collection, a beautiful worship service in Emory’s Cannon Chapel, musical performances, and an academic panel of leading theologians. You can find details and register for the event at http://pitts.emory.edu/reformationday. The day will also highlight the most recent exhibition at Pitts Theology Library, entitled “Looking Back, Looking Forward: Reading the Reformation through the Lens of Contemporary Christianity.” This magnificent exhibition displays 16th-century treasures from the Richard C. Kessler Reformation, organized by the challenges and priorities identified by the United Methodist Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. For more details, and to schedule an exhibition tour, visit https://exhibitions.pitts.emory.edu/looking-back-looking-forward/.

This year, the Rev. Dr. Wyvetta Bullock, Assistant to the Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America/Executive for Administration, will be joining the Southeastern Synod Women of the ELCA for the Thankoffering Service.  Women pastors and deacons are invited to vest and process.
