Mississippi 2020 Floods:
Heavy rainfall following months of water levels at capacity is causing flooding in 19 counties in Mississippi. It is raining now and we are under active flood warnings with 1-3 more inches expected this week.
The Jackson Area:
Officials are not able to go in to do damage assessments until the Pearl River is at 33 feet. Damage assessments might be able to begin this weekend.
Hinds County has 500 homes with water in them
Rankin County has less than 75 homes with water in them.
There are 2000 structures across the state with water in them.
The American Red Cross is hosting 23 people in the shelter.
The Jackson Police Training facility is hosting 24 people in their facility.
People are encouraged to self report damage through www.msema.org
Christ UMC (6000 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS 39211) is set up as the Disaster Recovery Center.
Ascension Lutheran Church (6481 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS 39211) is set up to host mission teams.
Clay County has 130 homes damaged.
Lowndes County has 10 homes damaged & 15 roads closed due to flooding. Oktibbeha County is on standby for local lake dam breach.
Leake County has 23 homes damaged.
Grenada County has 10 homes damaged, as well as four people injured. South Mississippi/Delta:
Copiah County has 83 homes damaged.Washington County has 17 homes damaged
Yazoo has 30 homes damaged and 15 roads closed.

If you would like to donate to the recovery from recent floods in Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee, one good way to do so is through our ELCA Southeastern Synod. Please donate directly to the Synod by going to our Giving page (click here).
Under "Disaster Response", you will find several options but the first is "Southeastern Synod Disaster Response". On that line, indicate the amount you wish to donate and then in the box beside it add "Mississippi 2020 flood" or “Tennessee 2020 Flood”. Complete the information requested at the bottom of the page, then click "continue". On the next page, fill in credit card information and complete the transaction.
