Mercy Church: an Atlanta-Based Ministry Seeking Your Help

October 01, 2021

Here is a letter from Pr. Gary Christensen, an advocate for Mercy Community Church, Atlanta, GA:

Good Morning!

Wanted to share with you a sustainable and compassionate ministry conducted by Mercy Church WITH AND TO our homeless and working poor neighbors in Atlanta.

MERCY CHURCH is… “a grassroots, ecumenical, open and affirming congregation that meets in the basement of a big church on a busy street in the heart of Atlanta. We believe that God desires life, health, dignity, and sanctuary for us all…” (https://www.mercyatl.org/covid/). The Core Values of Merch Church include – Community, Worship & Hospitality. .

Much of Mercy’s ministry is hosted and housed by St. John’s Lutheran Church where my wife, Nancy, serves as Pastor. During these most difficult and challenging times, our Sisters and Brother in Christ - the good folks of the Mercy Community - have some specific needs. I’m reaching out to you to see if you can help out with these “humanitarian” efforts of the Mercy Community.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need some help transporting any of your donated items to St. John’s – the collection point for Mercy Church. God Bless you.

Mercy Church desperately need MEN'S pants size 30-36, hats and visors. But all casual men's clothing is welcome, especially new socks.. Donations may be dropped off in the bin on the St John's sun porch between 10-Noon Monday - Friday (ring bell for Glen) or when you come for worship – or email Pastor Gary for help (Mercy Church).

PICK-UP TRUCK…

Mercy is looking for a pick-up truck that they can use to tow their supply trailer. Please let me know if you have a source for a servicable 4-wheel drive truck – either as a donation… or a fair price… for for a combination of the two… partial payment and a partial charitable donation.
