Southeastern Synod ELCA

Quilts & Kits for Lutheran World Relief

May 27, 2018

On August 24 and 25, 2018, the ladies of the Southeastern Synod Women of the ELCA will have 7 Ingathering locations to collect this year’s Quilts & Kits for Lutheran World Relief.  We have wonderful site coordinators and volunteers that count, weigh, and tally everything that goes into the trucks.  Not only do we serve as InGathering locations for our Southeastern Synod, but our locations and information are on the LWR website available for anyone to drop off Quilts & Kits.  In addition to churches in the Southeastern Synod, we collect donations from churches in the Florida Panhandle and South Carolina.  We also collect from some Missouri Synod churches.

Last year we exceeded our collection goal with a total of 38,812 pounds-that’s over 19 TONS!  We collected over 4,000 quilts, over 4,000 school kits and 3,649 Personal Care Kits!  After consolidating our loads, we fully packed 3 tractor trailers plus an overflow truck to get all of this to the LWR warehouse in Maryland!

There will be trucks at each Ingathering location on August 24th and 25th.  The times vary and are set by the site coordinator.  Please click on the following link for a full list of locations and times:  http://ingathering.lwr.org  Once you find the location closest to you there is a link to a reporting form we like each church to have filled out detailing the number of quilts and kits in each box and the weight of the box.  These forms are also available at each drop-off location.  Before you arrive to drop off your donations please have each box labeled with your church’s name, city and state,  cluster name/number,  type of items in the box with the number of quilts or kits, and the weight of the box (NOT OVER 40 lbs).  If you have any questions regarding drop off times or packing your items please call Janice Hawkins,  Southeastern Synod LWR Quilt & Kit Coordinator, at 770-712-6090.

There is still time to assemble Personal Care Kits, Baby Kits, and School Kits.  Please refer to the Lutheran World Relief website for specific instructions on what to include in these kits and how to assemble.  http://lwr.org/getinvolved/kits

Want to know where your LWR Quilts & Kits go?  Try using the LWR Quilt & Kit Tracker!  Register your congregation online, print out a special barcode to put on your boxes and then track your donations online as they travel overseas to people in need!  For more information visit: http://lwr.org/tracker

Pens and pencils, a toothbrush, a quilt … ordinary items we take for granted become treasures in the hands of their recipients. The items you send will be cherished and used by people who take nothing for granted, for who even a simple bar of soap is special.
