February 5, 2020
Did you know...that 2020 is the 50 year anniversary of the ordination of women and the 40 year anniversary of the ordination of women of color? Now that's something to celebrate! But how can a congregation give thanks for those women who have gone before and for the continuing hope for the future?
This year, make sure there's a woman in your pulpit at least once. For some congregations, this is a weekly occurrence. If not yours, invite a women to preach and preside. If you don't know any women, call the synod office. This synod is incredibly blessed to have many many women serving in our midst who would be honored to worship with you.
Celebrate BOLD Women's Day on the last Sunday in February. Sponsored by the Women of the ELCA, there is a plethora of liturgical resources and creative ideas for a wonderful day of celebration. Check it out here: https://www.womenoftheelca.org/bold-womens-day.
Finally, the ELCA is beginning to provide resources for the official anniversary celebration including Bible studies, liturgy with scripture and hymn suggestions, and an adult forum. Check it out here: https://www.elca.org/50yearsofordainedwomen.
