Our highlighted ministry for the first quarter of 2018 is the Atlanta Telugu Lutheran Mission Outreach, located at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Peachtree Corners, GA. This ministry to first generation Telugu speaking immigrants from Southeast India is a Synodically Authorized Worshipping Community (SAWC).
The first Telugu worship service was held on September 16, 2012. Most members of the new Telugu Christian community in Atlanta were affiliated with the Lutheran Church in India. They long for the opportunity to worship regularly in their native language and reach out to people of other faiths, especially Hindus.
Their Sundays afternoon weekly worship service follows the Telugu Lutheran Worship Service of the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church in India. In addition to regular Sunday worship, the Telugu Mission offers midweek Bible Study, Women’s weekly Bible Study, Monthly Fasting Prayers, Lenten Meditations, Outreach programs at festivals and celebrations of Indian national holidays in Metro Atlanta. This ministry also provides support, encouragement and advocacy for new immigrants who struggle with language and other life issues related to resettlement.
The Reverend John R. Billa, who is ordained by the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church in India, has been appointed as the Mission Developer for this outreach ministry.
