Pastoral Care for Rostered Ministers

Dear Partner in God's mission,

Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Thank you for discerning God’s call to rest and be renewed. We pray that through taking intentional time for respite and rejuvenation, God continues blessing you in the ministry to which you have been called.

This page is dedicated to providing resources to our rostered ministers for their respite and rejuvenation.

This Respite & Renewal Grant is born out of prayerful consideration, our understanding of being drawn close to Christ when we are weary and tired, the inspiration of funding made available through recent property sales within the Southeastern Synod, and our deep commitment to the pastoral care and sustaining wellness of the rostered ministers serving across our synod. Our passions for access to care, partnership, and accompaniment have grown now to support this grant. It is our hope that the Respite & Renewal Grants will help rostered ministers who are looking to take three to six full weeks away for rest and to be renewed.

The Southeastern Synod´s Care and Wellness Program offers its Rostered Ministers the “Gift of Time” when they need one or two Sundays away to care for themselves or their loved ones at no cost to them, their congregation, or their vacation. If you, or a Rostered Minister you know, could benefit from this “Gift of Time,” please contact Bishop Strickland (bishop@elca-ses.org) or Pastor Justin Eller (jeller@elca-ses.org) to learn more.

We will talk about:

  • The Rostered Minister´s reason or need for the couple of Sundays off
  • Possible dates
  • Type of coverage needed
  • Compensation for the coverage
  • How we can continue to care and accompany the Rostered Minister
