This page is dedicated to the ongoing work of Racial Justice, and our synod's resources to help all of us hold important conversations on this troubling issue in our society. Engaging these resources will allow for us to share the Gospel, to shine the light in the darkness. We know that this work is not in vain. We engage, for we are called to seek justice in all the earth.

Note from ELCA Worship leader, Deacon John Weit: "The ELCA will not produce a national prayer service in 2021. We look to focus on local and synod observances to mark the commemoration. Refreshed worship resources for the Commemoration of the Emanuel Nine are available in PDF and Word formats, including Scripture suggestions for a commemoration service. Additional resources for marking this commemoration in synods and congregations can be found at ELCA.org/EmanuelNine."

The ELCA commemorates June 17 as a day of repentance and commemoration for the martyrdom of the Emanuel Nine. We also recognize June 19 as Juneteenth, the day that marked the effective end of slavery in the United States.button
