The Rev. Dr. Ben Moravitz has served as assistant to the bishop since May 2014. In 2002, he founded Marietta Pastoral Counseling Center, Marietta, GA, where he served as executive director. He served several congregations in Southeastern Synod as an interim pastor. He was an adjunct professor of marriage and family therapy and a certified professional counselor supervisor. Prior to coming to Atlanta in 1996 for graduate study, he was, for more than ten years, pastor of an ELCA congregation near Charleston, SC.
Ben received a Th.D. in pastoral counseling from Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA in 2005, an M.Div. in parish ministry from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbia, SC, in 1984, and a B.A. in Psychology from Newberry College, Newberry, SC in 1776.
Ben is married to Leigh Lyjak, who teaches gifted students in Cobb County, GA. Leigh and Ben each have two adult children and share grandparenting of one granddaughter.
