St. Luke Works to Forgive nearly $1,000,000 in Medical Debt

Working in conjunction with the charity, RIP Medical Debt, the people of St. Luke in McDonough, Georgia raised enough money to purchase and forgive $923,267.58 in medical debt for deserving Georgia families. More than $750,000 stayed in Henry County, where our church is located. The money was raised through online crowdfunding, donations, a BBQ plate sale, a donut sale, and a ministry gift given to St. Luke by our former partner church, Eagles Landing Christian Church, with whom we shared a church campus for a number of years. 

The idea for the mission project came from Mary Shulak, who serves the St. Luke council as coordinator for evangelism. After a period of inward focus due to COVID-19 restrictions, she felt it was time to really turn our focus to those in our community. The success of the project brought tangible effects to the lives of those struggling with medical debt while reminding the church that we exist not just for our own sake, but for the sake of the world that God loves.
