Volunteer Assignments

Below find a list of the Volunteer Assignments offered for the 2018 Southeastern Synod Assembly, subject to availability at the time of registration.  Volunteers must perform their duties in a pleasant and courteous manner at all times.

Plenary Audio/Visual Technicians                                                                                                                          Plenary Audio/Visual Technicians must be able to commit for all plenary sessions - Plenary Session 1: Friday, June 1, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm; Plenary Session 2: Saturday, June 2, 8:30 am - 10:30 am; Plenary Session 3: Saturday, June 2, 3:15 pm - 6:00 pm; Plenary Session 4: Sunday, June 3, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.

Duties will include verifying credentials to ensure only voting members are using the microphones during plenary sessions; Assisting the Media Coordinator as needed.

Plenary Audio/Visual Technicians must arrive 15 minutes prior to each session. This service may require standing for extended periods. 

 

Plenary Dais Assistant                                                                                                                                              Plenary Dais Assistant must be able to commit for all plenary sessions - Plenary Session 1: Friday, June 1, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm; Plenary Session 2: Saturday, June 2, 8:30 am - 10:30 am; Plenary Session 3: Saturday, June 2, 3:15 pm - 6:00 pm; Plenary Session 4: Sunday, June 3, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.

The duties are to sit in the front of Plenary Hall ready to assist Synod Staff during plenary as directed.

 
Plenary Door Monitors 
Plenary Door Monitors must be able to commit for all plenary sessions - Plenary Session 1: Friday, June 1, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm; Plenary Session 2: Saturday, June 2, 8:30 am - 10:30 am; Plenary Session 3: Saturday, June 2, 3:15 pm - 6:00 pm; Plenary Session 4: Sunday, June 3, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.
 

Plenary Door Monitors must be in position 15 minutes prior to each session. They are responsible for ensuring only participants with credentials enter into the Plenary Hall during sessions. Persons leaving a session without their credentials should gently be reminded of the importance of wearing their credentials.  This service may require standing for extended periods. 

 

Plenary Page (18+ years old)                                                                                                                                          Plenary Pages must be able to commit for all plenary sessions - Plenary Session 1: Friday, June 1, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm; Plenary Session 2: Saturday, June 2, 8:30 am - 10:30 am; Plenary Session 3: Saturday, June 2, 3:15 pm - 6:00 pm; Plenary Session 4: Sunday, June 3, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.

Duties will include distributing and collecting election ballots and other plenary related materials as directed by the Elections Coordinator. Plenary Pages must arrive 15 minutes prior to each session. This service may require standing for extended periods. 

 
Plenary Pages (Under 18 years old)
Plenary Pages must be able to commit for all plenary sessions - Plenary Session 1: Friday, June 1, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm; Plenary Session 2: Saturday, June 2, 8:30 am - 10:30 am; Plenary Session 3: Saturday, June 2, 3:15 pm - 6:00 pm; Plenary Session 4: Sunday, June 3, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.

Greeter/Information (Friday, June 1, 8:00 am - 6:00 pm) 
Greeter/Information volunteers will serve at designated areas, providing assistance and guidance to the Synod Assembly participants. The duties will include, but are not limited to, greeting participants; answering general information questions; giving directions as well as assisting participants as they move to and from plenary, worship or workshops; receiving and returning lost and found items. This service may require standing for extended periods. 
 
 
Greeter/Information (Saturday, June 2, 8:00 am - 6:00 pm)
Greeter/Information volunteers will serve at designated areas, providing assistance and guidance to the Synod Assembly participants. The duties will include, but are not limited to, greeting participants; answering general information questions; giving directions as well as assisting participants as they move to and from plenary, worship or workshops; receiving and returning lost and found items. This service may require standing for extended periods. 
 
 
*Volunteer Orientation (June 1, 8:00 am to 9:00 am) - Required
All volunteers must attend orientation. Credentials will be provided and we will have a walk through of the facility.  If you are unable to attend this session, you must contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Ms. Bernice Bland at synodvolunteer@elca-ses.org or 404-423-6563.
 
 
Workshop Hosts - Pre-Assembly (Friday, June 1, 9:00 am - 11:00 am) 
Workshop Hosts will serve at the Synod Assembly Workshops, providing assistance and guidance to the Workshop Leader and participants.
 

The duties will include, but are not limited to, assisting the leader(s); keeping the leader(s) abreast of the start and end times; verifying participant credentials; greeting participants as they enter and leave the session; ensuring the room does not exceed capacity; providing a count of participants; and clearing the room of any debris or personal effects.  Workshop Hosts must arrive to the designated meeting room 10 minutes prior to the start of the session.

 
Workshop Hosts - Session 1 (Friday, June 1, 4:15 pm to 6:15 pm)
Workshop Hosts will serve at the Synod Assembly Workshops, providing assistance and guidance to the Workshop Leader and participants.
 

The duties will include, but are not limited to, assisting the speaker; keeping the speaker abreast of the start and end times; verifying participant credentials; greeting participants as they enter and leave the session; ensuring the room does not exceed capacity; providing a count of participants; and clearing the room of any debris or personal effects. Workshop Hosts must arrive to the designated meeting room 10 minutes prior to the start of the session.

 
Workshop Hosts - Session 2 (Saturday, June 2, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm)
Workshop Hosts will serve at the Synod Assembly Workshops, providing assistance and guidance to the Workshop Leader and participants. The duties will include, but are not limited to, assisting the speaker; keeping the speaker abreast of the start and end times; verifying participant credentials; greeting participants as they enter and leave the session; ensuring the room does not exceed capacity; providing a count of participants; and clearing the room of any debris or personal effects. Post Assembly Assistant (Sunday, June 3, 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm) 
The Post Assembly Assistant will assist the Synod Staff to close out the assembly. The duties will include, but are not limited to collecting and organizing materials received from participants. This service may require standing for extended periods.
